Saturday I got productive early-ish and instead of rerouting and summerizing the drip water system, my original intention, I tackled trimming back another of the 7 embarrassingly overgrown arborvitae on the north side of the driveway. By 10:30, it was too warm for the sweatshirt I had popped on, so I changed into a summer Tshirt.

It took a couple hours to do the one tree, using the hedge trimmer for what I could, then hand pruning the rest...we're talking a 14 foot plant. I had the bright idea that I'd run out and buy a chipper-shredder, since I always had so much of this type of debris to deal with. Off to Home Depot, but oh, no...the only one they had was gas, and it would set me back $597, so I opted NOT. I did pick up 16 bags of western bark mulch, which fit nicely in the VUE.

When I got home, I browsed for electric models of chipper-shredders. The only viable one I found was a McCullough, but I couldn't find any place (handy) in town that sold them. Ah, well, more debris for the eventual dumpster we're going to hire. If I could find the electric model, I'd have snapped it up. I could rent one, but with so many trees left to prune, that would be counterproductive.

Spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up and moving the debris to the pile, shoveled up 4 wheelbarrows of 13 years of arborvitae droppings (from ONE tree) to use as mulch on the south side, and got 14 of the 16 bags of mulch dealt with in the pruned area, and in the front of the house. I think I gave up somewhere around 4:30, tired and spent. We were going to have a treat by hitting Fuddrucker's for dinner, but there was a long line at 5:45, and I DON'T do lines if I can help it. We opted for another fave, JR's BBQ, where I seriously overate.

Danny had spent a number of hours sorting through all the tools and bits I had set out in the rec room downstairs, so that's all been organized and moved out to the garage! Thank heavens, finally!

We spent the rest of the night vegetating, watching TV, pretty much in our own space, too tired to interact anymore. We didn't make it to the Ranch for dancing.

Sunday was also an exercise in semi-frustrated productivity. I had to make another run to Home Depot to find the appropriate brackets to mount the pipes that I wanted to run the hose through for the drip system re-routing. With that, and running around trying to find miscellaneous bits, I didn't get home till after 1pm. But I DID get the drip system and timers relocated to the south side of the property, and have all the timers set and ready to go. It's 70 degrees, windy, with 9% humidity right now, so the garden is screaming for water. I have two other large areas I want to install drip watering, but that can wait until another weekend.

Time to hit the shower and get ready for the potluck and Lawrence and Scott's! Danny's already got his fantastic Scotch Eggs ready to go, and I'm going to try to pull together the Southwest Chicken Salad soon, sans the black beans the recipe calls for.

No yard work next weekend! Philadephia beckons!
