Marching to Praetoria

Oh, wait...I'm in BRYN MAWR Pennsylvania at the moment...
Actually packed and sorted early last night for the trip to the Poconos today. Things I did not pack since I only wanted to take carry on:
- My cowboy boots for dancing
- My mini-table for my laptop while calling
- An extra pair of jeans
- Danny
I think I have everything else I need.
The travel on this trip was totally uneventful. I got up with Danny this morning, and he only had to be a few minutes late to work to get me to the airport. My flight was at 8:30, and left on time. I never did get the wireless connection working for me in either ABQ or Chicago, and thought that I blew out my computer in Chicago by trying, but happily, as I later found out, I did not. Unlike my trip to Detroit last year, all connections were made, flights were smooth and boring.
My host for the night, David Blatt, picked me up at the airport about 5:25 after a nearly 1 1/2 hour trip in rush hour traffic to get me. That's dedication! He and his partner Fred made a nice little chicken dinner for me, fed me chocolate pie. But with decaf coffee, that made it all ok! I have my Cardizem handy, just in case.
We watched Will and Grace, took a nice walk for 45 minutes around 'downtown' Bryn Mawr, and retreated back to their place for a nice yak. Very nice couple...they've been together going on 15 years.
There must be a half dozen colleges and universities in their neighborhood. The place has a feel of higher education. Seeing these earlier 20th century massive mansions that are now admin offices for the colleges is something you don't see in Albuquerque. It's also greener here than I thought it would be...I picture this part of the country as still in winter mode, but it was high 60s today, and grass is pretty green everywhere, although the trees don't seem to be budding out yet.
They went to bed at 10, which left me here to fend for myself, since my body is on ABQ time (2 hours earlier). Chatted briefly online with D**** of
dr_scott and
excessor fame; he'll be at the flyin tomorrow. Jimmiesue in Seattle brought him up in IM conversation a couple of days ago...they've been friends for over 15 years. Such a small, small world.
David Blatt thinks the numbers will be down this year for the flyin. Last year, Kris said there were about 160 dancers. I'm sure it will still feel like a lot, though! The hall situation is interestingly arranged, but understandable. The callers always stay in the same hall for the several hour block of time, so as not to have to shift equipment. They just change programs every hour or so...I start off with Mainstream, then C1/C2, then A1/A2. Looking forward to the pool dance session on Saturday...I hear it's a blast. Danny gave me some tasteful and appropriate body hair trimming on Weds night in preparation.
There's a commuter train track just on the other side of their condo complex here. At least no blaring horns!
Guess I'll go read some more of "Strangers" by Dean Koontz...I picked it up this morning for airplane reading, and didn't realize I had already read it about 2 years ago. Seems fresh and new again, although I remember vague parts of the plot.
