This was the week that was
Sep. 2nd, 2006 08:13 amOver the course of the week, we shoehorned in the time to a) finish the patching and painting of the west wall in the kitchen, with Danny putting up the lovely sconce and b) finish up the repairs to the floor downstairs, with Danny powernailing on the baseboard yesterday.
We've somehow mislaid the battery charger for the powerdrill/driver and both batteries are flay, so we may not get the old kitchen cabinets installed in the garage like we wanted this weekend. What kind of Lesbians are we anyway!
Had another torrential localized T-storm and rainfall about 10 last night...loud enough that I couldn't get to sleep like I wanted to until after midnight. There's a significant cold front brushing by, so it may not even get above the 60s today, and with the damp, my plans to finish up the pruning down of the trees may have to wait. The paper on Thursday reported that this was the wettest AND coolest summer on record in Albuquerque.
abqdan had a scare yesterday morning about 9am, after I had gone to work. He's off on Fridays and was lounging about watching TV when two guys came up the back stairs onto the deck and looked in through the French doors. Apparently, they saw Danny and started to walk back to their old Ford Bronco-like car that they had pulled up into the driveway. Danny went out and asked them what they needed...they said 'they were looking for their friend Daniel that they had dropped off here yesterday'. Uh huh. (We have a front door, they didn't go there). Danny realized they were casing the place to break in, thinking no one was home, but they drove off before he could identify the model of car or the license plate.
He called me at work, freaked out. I recommended he call 311 to report the incident at least, and he started running through additional security we could get (we have an alarm system, but the yard is wide open since we took the fencing down). Later, I recommended he go and tell the neighbors what happened...which he did. Other than that I don't know what we could do. If someone wants to break in for 'stuff'...they will. The worst part was that they could have had weapons and taken Danny down, and I wouldn't have known it until I got home from work.
Later in the day, I had a meeting at the golf course with their operations manager, but forgot to take my cell phone. I'm not used to having it around yet. When I got back about 3:20, I had FIVE messages from my brother and from Danny both on my cell and my work number. My mom had been having bad dizzy spells for the past few weeks and had a Thursday appointment with her doc. Turns out my brother took her to the appointment, and the doc found immediately that she was in serious a-fib and recommended her going in to the hospital. Bruce thought a 2nd opinion from her cardiologist was in line, so they trekked over there, and indeed he concurred. She was put in for a change in meds and observation. I talked to her, and she sounded good, so it's under control and she should be home today sometime. Whew.
What with square dance, chorus, c/w lessons and the Tuesday night working on the floor and the wall until the wee hours, and the very busy, stressful/frustrating week at work and the scares, I was pooped and just vegetated last night. I may do the same today.
The annual Bernalillo wine festival is this weekend...and if it's cool and overcast that might be a fun thing to do.
