I only have about 6 to 12 out of town weekends for calling a year, but they're all very special and very different, and I always look forward to them. Travel just takes it out of me nowadays, though.

The Bay Area folks were very hospitable. [livejournal.com profile] allanh was a very thoughtful host; since he's not actually dancing anymore, he could just be thoughtful and hostful (and apparently had a lot of work issues on his mind he never voiced). Deep discussions were had...dishing was had. Their home is very pleasant and even Danny would like the paint choices. Lee put together a brunch group at "Catch" on Market Street that was enjoyable.

The dances went well overall in my eyes. No one made a scene this year at the Saturday night Valentine's Dance hosted by Foggy City. The turnout was 4 squares plus, which they seemed pleased with. It was rainy-misty-moist, so they thought that kept some folks from coming. After the dance, Allan and I met up with Gary Dougan and Charlie for some 'tinis at Martunis, but it was very loud and crowded there, so it wasn't really a quality visit.

The class level/full level A2/C1/C2/C3A dance put together by Midnight Squares are particularly challenging (no pun), since I'd have to switch between fully sight-calling the class levels from lists I wasn't very familiar with to calling full level tips. It seemed to work okay, and I was able to see a lot of friendly faces from years past.

We headed back to Sunnyvale right after the dance, picked up Randy and we pigged out at an Italian restaurant, I think called Frankie and Johnnie and Guido's...or something like that. I was so tired by that time, that I was just floating along.

Life there is so very different from Albuquerque. Everything we do is within 10 minutes of home...there the drives to get into the city from Sunnyvale are daunting to say the least. I think Allan and I spent over six hours in his car just driving to and from the dances and such. Parking? Hahahaha!

Thanks to all the ljers that showed for the dances. There were a few notables missing, but I let it slide. :-)

Waking up at 4:15 to get to the airport for my 6:30 flight was fine. Randy shuttled me over in his little Scion. There were NO passengers at the security checkpoint when I got there, so I more or less breezed through (they were bored, so one of the TSAettes felt it necessary to check my laptop table three times to make sure it wasn't dangerout). The flight FROM SLC was another matter...it was the terminal with all the busy-ness of 100s of commuter flights. THAT flight ended up being 1 1/4 hours late leaving, and flying home in a 50 passenger jet is maybe better than flying home in a six-passenger prop plane, but still a bit cramped.

So after getting home, I headed to the office for 3 hours of intense work, then rushed home to get ready for the Wilde Bunch dance.

So now...10:30pm and I'm bushed.

Tomorrow will be busy. Sigh.
