And the year begins

billeylerLast night was an enjoyable evening of dancing and socializing, and after all that, we amazingly were able to stay up to see the 2 hour delay NYC ball drop, then hit the pillows for a solid night's sleep.
One of our long-term square and c/w dancers hosted a mixed dance at ASDC last night from 6 to 9:30...excellent turnout, probably around 50 folks! A mix of lots of both groups, plus some others invited that helped make the evening very festive. The irony was that in the next (larger) hall was the long-term straight new year's square/round dance event...called by the central district callers association. I didn't participate at all, even though I'm ostensibly an officer in the assn.
We left there a bit early, then headed over to Dennis and Kelvin's in Nob Hill for their open house. Two women were leaving as we came in, so we were the only ones there other than D&K. I've known these guys for years in that one degree of separation way. Both of them work at the University, and I see them frequently there. Kelvin works in admin in the Art department; Dennis handles student housing and conferences for UNM. I've also known them through the now-defunct men's naturist social group. We yakked with them for about 45 minutes, then headed home, a mere 3/4 mile away.
It was interesting channel surfing to find a new year's program we wanted to watch. All the Hispanic stations had full blow galas going, but I only found 2 other stations with NY festivities, and never came across the Dick Clark event. We toasted the new year with a cheap bottle of sparkling wine, put on an extra comforter for the cold (it got down to 14 last night), then slept the sleep of the very weary.
Danny's feeling a bit cold-ish today, but I'm in fine shape, looking forward to my last day off before work reconvenes in the morning. My co-worker Karen left Isaac and me an email that her grandfather died, so she's headed back to Pittburgh until the 7th.
