Popejoy Hall's 08-09 season...

STILL no "Wicked" this way comes...nor "The Lion King"...our theatre stage/backstage is too small until they cut the show down to managable levels.

But "Mamma Mia" will be here yet again next season...2005, 2007, and now 2009.  Whee.  And there's rumors of another "Cats" tour coming.  They makes us some monies,  but they tend to trigger my 'done-it-over-it' response.

We do have 4 non-Broadway shows (Ovation series) that look like they're going to sell out, judging from season renewals:

-  Nunsense with Sally Struthers
-  The Complete History of America (abridged) [Reduced Shakespeare Company...a hoot!]
-  Luma (who'da thunk it...maybe it's the low price)
-  Bye Bye Birdie (only here one night, not a national tour, I don't think.  Yes, it's a Broadway musical, but it's not part of our partnered Broadway in New Mexico series).

Funny you should mention the show season. Just got my Broadway Bland Diego tickets the night before last. Shows this year include Spring Awakening, Drowsy Chaperone (Yay!), Defending the Caveman (no idea), Color Purple, and Chorus Line (I can only hope that the creaking warhorse Pre-Broadway revival production I saw in SF has improved). No, no Wicked, still gotta go to LA to see that.

Often, these tours and shows in medium-sized cities and venues seem to follow each other around the country, so that shows for a season here can be somewhat mirrored in Tucson or Tulsa for instance. Your San Diego season is totally not one that was even in consideration here!
