I'm Movin' On
Aug. 29th, 2008 07:51 amAfter months of vascillating, I gave my notice to the Sidewinder's manager that September 4 will be my last night teaching c/w and line dance lessons there. It's been an interesting 3 years, but time to move on!
Thursday nights are free again!

Date: 2008-08-29 04:39 pm (UTC)I just did my first gig as a line dance instructor on Monday for a teachers' conference. They found me through my square dance web site but wanted one hour of exclusive line dancing. So I taught them Tush Push, Slap Leather, and Reggae Cowboy. Despite the unusually warm weather, it was a lot of fun for me and the teachers. And I got to use my wireless head microphone for the first time. Yay!

Date: 2008-08-29 04:47 pm (UTC)Like you, the offshoot of this is that I have gotten other gigs to teach line dance here and there. NO one wants a square dance caller around here, but line dance still has some draw. I have about 50 dances in our repertoire, first having drawn on the www.sundancesaloon.org list and www.bigappleranch.com list as a mainstay, but I'm linked into the Seattle group (led by the estimable Ruby) goings on.
Last year, we attended the Sundance Stompede for the first time and had a grand but exhausting time!
It was through this list that I found that
There has been some discouragement with teaching lessons every week, but the plusses outweight the negatives and we've had a whole different set of friendships come out of this.
Also, "Desert Heat," the ABQ gay c/w performance team was spawned out of this group and will making their premiere out-of-state performance at Stompede in November.
