billeyler: (chorus)

It's a whole new ballgame with the chorus now.  And it's not a bad thing at this point.

There were probably 30 people at the chorus kickoff party tonight, and VERY few of the old guard, except for me and Alan Stringer (the founder of the chorus in '81).  I met a LOT of new, interesting people tonight.  There was a lot of food set out in Stanley and Thom's house.  It's not really a house for entertaining, since it's one of the 1940s mini-houses that were built right around WWII.  But it was festive.

Stanley hails from DC, as does his partner.  They moved here a few years ago, setting up roots pretty quickly.  Stanley works for Senator Jeff Binganham (sp?) and his partner Thom works for the growing Aurora Publishing, who does postcards for the theatre I work for.  Small world all over.  They came to C/W lessons for a while, but as many did and do, just faded away.  Now Stanley is on the board of the chorus.  Interesting!

There seem to be an influx of people that are now getting involved with the chorus that were in DC.  I met a guy who sang this past term that's been commuting between DC and ABQ and now lives here.  His partner Rusty Smith is moving here from DC.  They were both very active with the DC chorus and knew Steve Crutchfield there.

Lots of new faces and new life.  I'm pleased.  I have no doubt there will be at least 30 singers in the chorus this year, and maybe even 40, as Matthew things.  I like the way this is going, as long as the MUSIC and THEME and DIRECTION are there.

Got lots of Hamlet 2 swag there, too, that Matthew had hauled over!  2 tshirts, a movie poster (totally unrelated to the movie...don't know WHERE that came from, except it has Hamlet 2 on it), and some other unexplored bits and pieces.

On other new, we just got an email on the Wilde Bunch listserv, that the board secretary Carlos suddenly decided to resign.  He didn't give a clue about that during the meeting today, and there was nothing going on that would indicate why he's resigning.  Of course, I don't think he's danced with us in months, but who knows.

So... you think maybe you'll rejoin the Chorus? It does sound like a potentially exciting thing to be involved in...!

First rehearsal, this coming Monday. Not nearly as exciting as what you're doing, but it'll do!
