Shreveport/Bossier was supposed to get some major effects from Hurricane Ike, but it barely grazed them as it blew it's way between there and Dallas.  They got about 2 1/2 inches or rain out of it and some on and off strongish winds.  But it's just a brief memory now.  Mom says they lost phone/cable for about 4 hours (I'm sure she was upset when she missed some of her favorite soaps or Wheel of Fortune) and the electric blipped a couple of times, but didn't actually go off.  No flooding issues that I heard about.

Toronto Ontario is having more serious weather from what was a hurricane than most places in the South [excluding of course the large swath of coastal SE Texas] ended up having.  Luck of the draw!

We actually dodged it as well. It tracked north of here so we only got about 10 mm (less than half-an-inch) of rain. We had more than that on Saturday night from another 'normal' weather system.

All around us got quite a bit of wind and rain though.

We have had some flooding in our basement before (storm sewer backup) and Barry says we dodged this one because we picked everything up off the floor on Sunday morning.

Kind of like washing your car to be sure it rains, huh!

That's not true for Houston and Galveston. Ike tore us apart. Many areas will be without power for weeks and some small towns have disappeared all together.

Yes, of course. Except where the storm had a direct hit. Ike slipped between Dallas and Shreveport, having dropped quickly down to tropical storm status around Lufkin.

But you know that!
