On we go

Since most of the main part of the house is functionally complete and we can actually use the kitchen, we've moved onto completing the rest of the upstairs ourselves.

- I discovered that painter's tape was not the best solution for painting three coats of gloss enamel white on the stairwell sides. I spent more time taking the tape off and correcting the mess left behind than if I hadn't used the tape at all. Ugh.
- Danny removed the rest of the old baseboards and all the old carpet tack strips from the rooms
- We've patched all the damaged areas in the back rooms (after removing yet another of the formerly all pervasive large teak bookshelves installed by the previous owner)
- Danny primed all the new drywalled areas.
- We did an enormous amount of shopping to purchase the new cabinets and rods for the walk-in closet (there went another $1000). We've probably spent one hour of shopping for every hour of actual work on the house. (Side note: ClosetMaid has a fantastic 3-D closet design site)
- We purchased tasteful towel rods and other paraphernalia for the two upstairs bathrooms, including a faboo new shower curtain for the guest bath. Who knew that Tarjay would have such nice stuff on sale.
- We purchased paint for the unfinished rooms. Danny painted the new accent wall in the master bedroom tonight and I finished up ceiling paint.
- We named the small room created between the master bedroom and the old small bedroom where two closets existed as "The Ante-Room" and figured out what to do with it.
- We purchased four 8' lengths of baseboard. We wanted to purchase 45 lengths but they weren't in stock. Damn.
- We did a preliminary look at carpeting for all the back rooms. We compromised on a mid-grade, generic non-patterned "Cinnamon." Danny for some reason is leaning more toward burgundy. I think the fumes are affecting him. Again, this is preliminary. We have to have the doors installed before the carpeting can happen.

We're still waiting for the bathroom wall tiles to be installed. That's our major holdup right now before we can get the rest of the plumbing finished up.

Tomorrow -- more painting! Whee!

I'm impressed. Your home reno work sounds worthwhile, but very tiring. Off-topic: Happy New Year!
