After trying to be my own travel agent this morning, I finally let it be and puttered around most of the day.

During one of the tours of the yard, when I was tossing fertilizer here and there, I rousted up a very young mourning dove that must have fallen from its nest somewhere high up in one of the junipers.

It was about 1/2 size, and had a natural fear-flight reaction when I came up to it, trying to hide in an extension of the cinder block wall. After washing my hands, I did try to figure out where it had come from and maybe catch it to try to put it somewhere in a tree, but couldn't spy a nest. Chased it a bit down the wall, hoping it would come to a spot where the feral neighborhood cats might miss it. It fluttered away, evading me.

An hour or so later, I rousted it up again accidentally where it had skittered a bit into the yard. This time, it flew about 25 feet and ungracefully touched down just below the bird feeder. It hid under the stool I use to climb to the feeder, sitting perfectly still, almost as if say, "If I don't move, then you can't see me."

When I looked about 30 minutes later, it was gone, nowhere to be seen. There were lots of sparrows and other doves around the feeder though picking at the remains of the late breakfast they got.

We're both hoping it got rested enough and confident enought to fly up into the tree.

Just a sprinkling of rain today, no thunderstorms that have been the norm all week....more cool weather and storms forecast for next week though!

Hmm...I just checked again on Southwest.com and there are no flights that would work for me to get there on Friday (I don't want to leave on Thursday, since I'd have to cancel a paying thing here) in time to get to the dance. I think it's an hour trip from Prov to Medford? Monday's no problem, I'd just take a 2nd vacation day, as long as I got back in time to call at 6pm. Even with flights that wouldn't work anyway, I didn't see any costs less than $383 plus fees plus the bus from Prov.

Don't see anything on Ding.

I'll get it worked out...always do! :-)

Yeah. I was looking at the Delta flights, but that wouldn't get ya in until 9:40PM.

You can do it for $289 r/t on America West on Friday and get in at 5:40, but you'd have to connect twice (in Phoenix and Pittsburgh).

Good luck!
