A moment to breathe...
Apr. 10th, 2006 02:29 pmThe weekend was its usually mix of activities, tinted a bit by both Danny's ongoing health issues and "Hairspray" at Popejoy. The weather was fantastic, letting me know it's ALMOST time to summerize the house (setting up the swamp cooler).
Danny DID take a drug that got rid of his headache for six hours or so at a time, but it's a very strong prescription thingie, which is a concern. His flu has moderated down to feeling okay with just the occasional croupy sounding cough...ah, love!
Hairspray tanked here in Albuquerque, which surprised us all*. We lost money on the 8 performances...not a lot, but enough that it made a dent in the overall financial health of the theatre this year. Danny saw the whole show yesterday, and I watched most of the 2nd act after finishing all the show settlement noodging around I have to do. It was definitely lively and colorful, and the John Waters touch was still there (his voice is the announcer for a radio station at one point, and some of his jokes are still there).
The Live Nation (formerly Clear Channel Entertainment) rep that flew out for the final settlement is definitely family. Saturday night, I made a solo trip to the Ranch, and Joey joined up a short time later. I can't remember the last time I'd been out dancing WITHOUT Danny...it felt very odd. But although Joey didn't dance, he was a happy guy and glad to get into 'our' own environment for awhile. He's slender and cute, but in that slightly aging (he's almost 40), twinkie look that was all the rage 10 years ago. Very QAF. I did get a lot of dancing in though, but started flagging by midnight.
I had had 2 large cups of coffee that morning, something I REALLY shouldn't do, since I haven't had any significant caffeine in more than six months. I was buzzed all morning and afternoon, and couldn't fall asleep after I got home from the Ranch until 3:30am, which DEFINITELY affected me on Sunday.
Sunday was a nice flowing mix of a bit of house cleaning, patio cleanup, work, calling a C1 2 hour workshop at the house, back to work, watching the end of Hairspray, then home.
When my head hit the pillow, I was asleep. Yay!
* We had 66% paid tickets over the run, which is slightly more than 10,000 patrons.
