billeyler: (Albuquerque)
It's 9:30am and the temperature has already climbed over the freezing mark! Encouraging! There's more forecaster ballyhoo about another wet cold front crawling in late Sunday and Monday, but it'll probably be another no-show...at least for the precip part. I'm going to try to fit in some more yardwork cleanup in between shows this weekend.

I was SOLIDLY annoyed last night when I set my laptop up in my temp office at the theater last night to work on "Gypsy" stuff. I had no network connection at all. Couldn't print, get email. Nothing. The IT guy had assured me I'd be good to go, but there I was stuck. After some kerfuffling about with a phone call to Danny and another Popejoy employee, I did get ahold of the IT guy on his cell. He actually gave me their sysadmin password so I could set the laptop to get it's own IP address, rather than it being forced into their static Bookstore IP. That was just stupid. He told me to 'forget the password'....yah, right. Well, I won't abuse it, but I bet they don't change it, either.

Danny's still feeling stressed, I can tell, with some of those work issues hanging over his head. I know he's looking SO forward to it being summertime, when he puts his master plan into effect! I'll have to give him a haircut shortly...he's looking as scraggly as I am!

So after doing about an hour of yard cleanup, I showered and headed to work, to find this email from the Director of Ticketing Services:

"Sorry, but I need a big favor. We are having serious problems today and I have no idea if I can even run reports at 2:30. So sorry, but can you find out if we can do a settlement tonight for both shows today?"

Luckily, when I asked the company manager about this, she's good with it. So I can't do my normal work. Thought about sitting in the VIP room to watch "Gypsy," but decided not.

The ticket office handled this fairly smoothly. They were able to get a list of the will calls printed out, so that helped them immensely. They hand-wrote tickets for the 20 or so walk ups, but those have to be entered into the ticketing system IF and WHEN the system comes back up.

"Gypsy" is far from sold out, but even beyond the George Strait ticket fiasco, there are other shows here in the Performing Arts Center that could sell out tonight. It'll be touch and go and stress galore for the ticketing office here, but they'll make it through it.

The reason for the crash?

George Strait tickets went on sale today for the 17,000 seat UNM Arena. Even with adding 4 extra servers, the system crashed almost immediately when it opened for sale this morning. All the outlets, the main ticketing office, the Bookstore ticketing office...everything.

Hmmm...
