...we're very lucky compared to the families who lost their homes and animals in the Trigo Fire 40 miles SE of here as the crow flies.
The fire started on April 15, and was mostly contained until the fierce winds whipped up again a few days ago. One stray ember started the whole thing over again.
We were indirectly affected by this. AGORA, where Danny volunteers, was going to have their annual retreat this weekend in the Manzano Mountain Sanctuary. It was closed because of the fires, and for all I know, that campground was lost in the blaze. They just bagged the retreat.
59 homes burnt down, most of them in the Sherwood Forest area on the Manzano Mountains.
Sigh.
I'd certainly have second thoughts about having property in the heavily forested mountains around here, especially in severe drought times like now.
